Thierry Cheverney depicts a colorful landscape slowly
succumbing to the dominance of man and machine. Although seemingly
surrealistic and dream-like, Cheverney’s mystical vision of a fantasy
world exposes real concerns towards our contemporary perception of
nature. Compressing past, present, and future observations of our
environment into one spectacular image, Cheverney uses nature as a
manifestation of the eternal struggles between good and evil that exist
in our modern world. Through colorful, surrealistic visions of the
world, Thierry Cheverney critiques the relationship between nature and
man. Showing the not so subtle dominance of technology and its violent
effects on nature, Cheverney’s representations beg the viewer to
contemplate man’s position in the contemporary landscape. Born in
Tunisia in 1954, Thierry Cheverney has spent most of his life in
France, where he continues to live and work. His work has been widely
exhibited throughout the world, including a recent 2012 solo show at
Galerie Motul-le, Pleumeur Bodou.
