J'ai
trouvé la
concentration et la disponibilité qu'appelle ta peinture pour me
montrer curieux de ton travail récent.

Parce que le langage articulé
ne peut
rendre compte d'un upercut pleine face avec l'éclair blanc, le trou noir
et les
autres qui vont avec...
Tes désastres en puissance
font
échouer toute tentative d'expression verbale de la collision
visuelle
provoquée.
je ne peux rien te dire qui ne soit
subjectif, et je n'ai pas envie.
Au delà du métier sur
la toile, je
ressens en m'attardant sur la splendeur formelle de crépuscule
post
nucléaire,
une sorte de malaise extatique,
une émotion complexe comme un oxymore.
Il me vient cette idée
inconcevable
du dernier instant avant l'apocalypse.
Le portrait de ton père me
déchire,
s'y lit
l'épuisante recherche de ta vérité.
le disque acide de cuivre dans les
portraits de ton fils aspire, comme l'effondrement de la matière
laissé
par un astre inquiétant,
littéralement captivant.
I
finaly found
the spiritual receptiveness that your paintings require and i have been
peering into your recent work.
Because articulate langage fails to
account for a right
jab in the face with the white flash that goes along,
then the black hole following the blowing violence of your vision.
Your
potential disasters make any
verbal attempt unable to render such colliding visions.
I can't sound analytic and i don't feel like it, facing painting is
basically physical experience, chemistry, biology, first happening in
the flesh.
Beyond genuine crafstmanship on the canvas, I feel some sort of
esctatic dizziness, very ambivalent sensations like oxymorons,
while lingering on the formal beauty of post-nuclear sunset skies.
What crosses my mind in this moment is the somewhat unlikely idea of a
still image of quiteness and perhaps peace a second before the white
light of
Apocalypse in the sense of
revelation as DH Lawrence puts it.
I know how deeply my freind Thierry admires Antoine Watteau, and it
seems to me that
Thierry cunningly borrows Watteau's art of irony, yet with
quite the opposite purpose: the negation of any mystical paradise.
On the contrary, Thierry is all out at war with the possibility of
utopia as salvation. I think he aims at unmasking man's fatefull monkey
business
and he is laughing along with sad clowns in disguise.
And is purpose is all the more elevated as it never excludes sympathy
for (d)evil of course, and does not deny a little glimmer of hope
despite objective pessimism and a sense of fate, future remains in the
hands of men at work.
